    VETERAN CLEAR QUART, LIGHTNING-CLOSURE FRUIT JAR––
    This is a clear, smooth-lip, old-style lightning-closure, fruit jar embossed VETERAN (bust of bearded Veteran above two stars), within a stippled arched-top frame.
    TIGHT on collar front and reverse.
    Brewster, Gordon & Co., who marketed these jars, were wholesalers, selling various products, many of which carried the company’s Veteran Brand label on goods manufactured and packed by others.
    The company decided, some time before 1920, to market home canning jars embossed with the Veteran brand name.
    These clear jars were purchased by Brewster, Gordon & Co. from Smalley, Kivlan & Onthank, who were themselves glass jobbers, or middlemen, with the jars actually manufactured by some unknown glass company.

    Large flattened unbroken bubble to left of bust and another smaller bubble at heel.
