Rare Vintage Hettermann Bros Cigar Humidor Jar Amber Glass Louisville Kentucky

Description

A rare Hettermann Bros amber glass cigar jar from the late 1800’s. It is a six-sided jar with embossing on three of the faces.
The front of the jar has “PURE FOOD CIGAR MANUFACTURED BY HETTERMANN BROS Co LOUISVILLE KY” in raised letters.
Another face of the jar has “PURE FOOD CIGAR” in raised letters.
Another face of the jar has “FACTORY NO 23 5
th
DISTRICT OF KENTUCKY 50” in raised letters.
There is a label panel on two of the remaining sides of the jar.
The jar has the original metal screw cap. The top of the jar has a ground mouth. The jar is 6 ¾ inches tall by 5 inches wide. The jar has no cracks.  There is a very small chip on the “N” in the word MANUFACTURED on the front face of the jar.
There is an even smaller chip on the “D” in the word FOOD on the front face of the jar.
There are
close-up pictures of each chip. The jar also has some type of stain or deposits on the inside surface of the jar.
The affected area covers the bottom inside surface of the jar and goes up to around 1/3 to 1/2 of the height of the jar.
A minimal attempt was made at cleaning the stain/deposits with soap and water and with glass cleaner but it was not effective. I did not try anything more powerful or abrasive for fear of damaging the interior surface.
As most of the pictures show, the interior staining/deposits are slightly visible when viewing light through the jar.
In the last picture, I positioned a bright flashlight into the interior of the jar and angled the light just right to reflect off the interior surface to show the worst possible view of the interior staining/deposits. The jar will be double boxed for shipping. The jar was received in a family estate settlement.
