    Description

    DESCRIPTION:
Two matched Antique Venetian Millefiori Trade Beads.
These beads contain two different glass cane designs on one bead, which is more unusual and much more difficult to find.  The canes are constructed in various ways- the bulls eye design is built from the center out and each color is layered one at a time. The other glass cane reminds me of a Lotus seed pod.  The blue dots may be smaller glass rods that are carefully added to the brick red matrix.  Final color white.  Looks like both canes were marvered into a pentagonal shape before being cut into sections.
The finished glass cane is then sliced and sliced cane torch heated onto a base of drawn glass.  Murrine is the name for the colored glass patterns or images created in the glass cane.
The Bulls Eye or "Eye" Bead is thought to have a protective effect for the wearer against the "evil eye" or other ills and is variously represented throughout the World in many Cultures.
    SIZE:
    ~32mm X 10mm, ~32mm X 10mm
    CONDITION:
Beads are in very good condition. These are circulated Antique Trade Beads, and show some surface wear, as expected, but are in above average condition.  Small flat end chip on one bead (photos #4-top bead lower lt. at blue "eye" & #6- right bead-upper edge same)- normal for Trade Beads.  Look a little "dry" in the harsh sun, this due to age and also they are matte finish.  No Cracks. Overall very nice.  Please use Photos to help determine condition and appearance, and zoom in as needed.
PLEASE contact me before paying if you are buying multiple items and I will quote for adjusted combined shipping price.  Thanks!
I have been buying Antique Trade Beads for almost 50 years, and had a Wholesale and Retail Bead Store, Folk Art, and Tribal Art Store in Greensboro, NC for some 25 years (Lost and Found Gallery), and am now semi-retired.  We are just beginning to sell on eBay.  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the beads.
