    Description

    DESCRIPTION:
Two Gorgeous Hard to Find Antique Venetian Millefiori Trade Beads with matching Acid Green & Cobalt Blue striped 6 layer Chevron Murrine.  This exceptional chevron patterned murine is constructed with an acid green core, blue layer, white, red, white, then blue with outer acid green and blue striping.  It is so striking to see these colors in beads 100 years old!
    The
murrina were laid, heated & worked onto a drawn glass core- in this case an unusual cobalt blue color core.  The first bead is tubular, with sides slightly flattened/shaped.  The second bead is a what I call a smaller gently-shaped elbow bead, and is beautifully delicate and very hard to find!- it would make a wonderful centerpiece bead ("smaller" in comparison with some of the huge elbow beads I have).  Both beads are made with same murrine complex 6 layer chevron pattern.  Because of the bullseye center these could also be considered "eye beads".
Date from late 1800's to early 1900's.
The Bulls Eye or "Eye" Bead is thought to have a protective effect for the wearer against the "evil eye" or other ills and is variously represented throughout the World in many Cultures.
    SIZES:
Bead #1: ~25mm at longest X 12mm width. Tube Shaped Marvered w/slight flattened areas on sides.
    Bead #2: ~34mm at longest X 9mm width.  Gentle elbow-shaped bead.
    CONDITION:
    Beads
    are in very good condition.
These are circulated Antique Trade Beads, and show some surface wear, as expected, but are in above average condition.
No Cracks.  Tiny end chipping is normal in circulated Trade Beads.
Overall very nice.  Note the irregularities at the ends can be the visible murrine sections as they are pieced onto the drawn glass core.
