Description
This elegant and rare 1st
Year PARKER 51 fountain pen is a hybrid, produced at a time during production in late 1941 when Parker ran out of metal jewels. The pen is 5 3/8” capped with a metal jewel on the barrel, later type plastic pump filler and a plastic jewel on the cap. The fine line pattern Gold Filled cap has the correct lighter blue enamel on the Blue Diamond, showing some wear to the blue, and the blind cap is imprinted with the PARKER name followed by the date code 1 denoting 1941. Earlier examples often didn’t have a date code – this pen was made late in the year and the mixed jewels on the cap/barrel is readily understandable. The Dove gray color is even and rich - there are no chips or cracks, no digs or bites and no personalizations on the barrel. The 16K Gold Filled cap, with literally no dimples or dings I see, has 3 initials in the cartouche G.S.S. ***NOTE -The hooded 14K Gold Parker nib is missing one iridium tip - I will either deduct 30.00 or so for a nib or send along another 51 or a 51 barrel w/nib . There is a small touch of rub to the cap edge – very modest but worth noting. This is a well preserved example of a 1
st
Year Variation - not so often seen and a welcome addition to any fine collection. ***NOTE*** All our pens are sold as acquired from local estates – Untested. Buyer pays 7.95 safe bubble shipping, Insurance and tracking in USA
