    … this is
    an authentic, genuine antique
    ceremonial/ritual religious
    Voodoo/Hoodoo/Vodun religious/black magic/black arts/folk-art   item
with known provenance and history: [It is
    not
    a cheap Asian (Thailand)
    replica, made of plastic
composite or other manufactured synthetics]: Our
pieces we have in our collection and offer
    are authentic, antique
terracotta with, if so noted,  other organic materials   with a known history and chain of ownership.
Many pieces being the ubiquitous Voodoo skulls, voodoo ceremonial items.
We provide Free Shipping (we only ship in the US. Reasonable Offers considered.
Please keep in mind that these are old items, folk-art,
religious pieces black magic/black arts and will have imperfections, wear/ signs of use, age deterioration hence we provide photos/descriptions accordingly. Do not expect ‘perfection’.
The craftsmanship is rather ingenious for what are folk –art/primitive (antique) items crafted without
machining, mold crafting or anything other than simple tools and ingenuity and patience by old-world craftsmen and practitioners : along with natural organic terracotta clay, indigos, waxes, metals. A repeat buyer /collector informs us that a ceramics manufacturer
indicated, upon examine of our pieces he purchased that
these pieces (terracotta) are most likely
slow-fired terracotta clay. These are also in the classification of
    ethnic folk-art items
    .-
rare surviving hard to find artifacts that have had the same family ownership as noted in the history below.
    Our Voodoo/ Hoodoo/Vodun artifacts
are from the same historic venue:   The  provenance
    is
Savin Rock Amusement Park (active from 1890’s to mid/ late 1960’s) in West Haven, Connecticut as part of the gypsy/ fortune teller attractions and runway ”off the walk” attractions which had such wares for fortune telling, age of spiritualism attractions and
    ‘services’.
Again, these artifacts are crafted and
constructed of a natural clay substance - painted/stained with indigos / or ash-rubbed/polished and (hardened) wax with
solid terracotta  dating to as early as 1920’s, possibly earlier.
Many of the pieces have metal adornments, mostly copper, and will show wear, mild/moderate corrosion, deterioration, and any imperfects which are not of conservation will be noted in photos. These may have been sold to customers /participants by practitioners
and used in rituals/ceremonials as what are called
“mojo” items; of the sideshow attractions.
    Savin Rock Amusement Park
    was a seasonal,
yet permanent amusement park of over a century and now past, ,
which featured rides, attractions, restaurants and hotels, a fare share of drinking establishments along with a
    boardwalk that extended almost
two miles along the shore of the Long Island Sound (currently the New Haven Harbor, and south). As stated above…In addition to the conventional, more “commercial”
attractions, the  gypsy/ fortune teller attractions and ”off the boardwalk”
entrepreneurs operated in private homes, or off the runway proper
    and
    had such wares for fortune telling, the age of spiritualism venues and offered their ‘services’ as practitioners of these arts;
    catering to
    visitors/customers alike.
The origin of this and our other items is either Haiti, possibly other countries in Africa (as style is noted on some individual pieces in the collection) and traveled to Savin Rock with practitioner(s) of the arts). It is also reasonable to trace to areas of
ethnic populous such as North Carolina, Louisiana with practitioners traveling to,
    and
living in the area of Savin Rock to practice their arts
and sell their wares they obtained through their native traditions or crafted for practices.
Again, we know the history and ownership  of these items as
we have prior generation family members who lived in the city of West Haven  and worked at Savin Rock from the 1940's until its closing in 1967- Some items (porcelain and
    common fair items)
were donated in the late 1990's to what is currently the
    “Old” Savin Rock/ Savin Rock
Museum. Other items, such as these items in auction, and many
    other generic fair items, wares,
toys, were kept by our family. Internet inquiries and sites into the history of “Old”
Savin Rock are full of information on what was once a large New England attraction. Our items were stored for a substantially long period and may present a musty odor, but not offensive; any deterioration is noted and /or indicated in photos proper.
    This item
    does not test
positive for lead, so it can be safely handled…but should not be subject to any use as the item is old.
