Used. There is some age wear, pitting and small chips in some of the beads; all have a nice smooth patina. They are in overall good condition considering their age and travels, and will make a great addition to any collection. The photos show the actual beads you will receive. No additional accessories (or the U.S. quarter) are included.

(23) Venetian Glass African Trade Beads
Specifications:
This mixed lot of 23 Venetian Glass African Trade Beads is from the late 19th - early 20th century. The beads are multi-colored in various mosaic, watermelon, eye and striped patterns; all solid glass. Included is one (1) rare striped clear heart, and ten (10) striped green hearts. The rest of the beads are "millefiori". They range in size from 12-14mm in diameter, and 5.25-20mm in length. They are strung on a twine cord, which is not antique - and they will have to be restrung. The photos show the actual beads you will receive (the last photo shows a backlit green heart).

- Dutch traders were the first Europeans to bring Venetian millefiori beads to West Africa in the late 1400's. The beads were held in high regard by several tribes and were often used as a form of currency. Millefiori beads of this era are still sought after by collectors worldwide.
